UTF-8 Compatibility & Diacritic Indexing Normalization
The glossary system now includes enhanced UTF-8 handling and diacritic indexing normalization to properly support scholarly transliterated terminology and multilingual content standards. Terms containing diacritics, such as “Ḥājah”, “Ṣabr”, “Ṭahārah”, “Ādāb”, “Īmān”, and “Ūlū al-Albāb”, are automatically normalized and indexed under their equivalent base letters (H, S, T, A, I, and U respectively) within the A–Z navigation, while still preserving their academically correct spelling throughout the glossary itself.
This significantly improves usability for readers who may not be familiar with transliteration marks, while maintaining linguistic and scholarly accuracy for researchers, students, and academic audiences. Proper UTF-8 support also ensures reliable rendering, searching, auto-linking, and CSV import/export compatibility across different browsers, databases, operating systems, and international character sets, helping prevent character corruption and encoding inconsistencies over time.
