WordPress development that serves the business behind the website

I build, improve and troubleshoot WordPress websites, WooCommerce stores and custom plugins with attention to the wider system.

Experience across the visible site and the systems beneath it

I have built or worked on more than 100 websites. That experience includes business sites, custom plugins, WooCommerce, membership features, portals, hosting, DNS, migrations, performance and technical troubleshooting.

My role is not to add features simply because WordPress allows them. I help decide what the website needs to do, how it connects to other work and what can be maintained sensibly.

Choose the right level of build

When a standard template is enough—and when it is not

A standard setup may be enough

For a clear brochure website with familiar pages, a well-supported theme and a small number of reliable plugins can be a sensible, affordable choice.

  • Common page layouts
  • Simple enquiry forms
  • Standard articles and portfolios
  • No unusual record workflow

Custom development may be justified

Custom work becomes useful when the website must follow a particular business rule, store specialised records or connect with outside services.

  • Unique forms and approvals
  • Member or client portals
  • Verification and directory features
  • API integrations and custom reporting
Development services

Build and improve WordPress with a clear purpose

Business websites

Clear page structure, accessible content and enquiry paths shaped around what visitors need to understand.

Custom plugins

Purpose-built features that follow your rules without changing WordPress core files.

WooCommerce

Store configuration, custom checkout needs, payment connections and practical support for online operations.

Membership websites

Member records, protected content, renewals and role-based access planned around the organisation.

Portals and directories

Searchable records, submissions, profiles and private dashboards built with clear permissions.

WordPress troubleshooting

Investigate errors, plugin conflicts, failed updates and unexpected behaviour before changing the site.

A stable foundation

Speed, security, hosting and DNS

A slow or unreliable site is not always caused by the theme. Hosting limits, oversized images, database load, plugin behaviour, caching and outside scripts may all contribute.

I review the wider environment, including domain name system (DNS) settings—the records that direct your domain to web and email services. Migrations are planned to reduce avoidable downtime and preserve important URLs.

Technical areas I can review

  • Performance and caching
  • Updates, backups and access
  • Hosting configuration
  • DNS and SSL certificates
  • Staging and migrations
  • Broken links and redirects
After launch

Ongoing support that matches the site

WordPress needs updates, backups, monitoring and periodic review. A simple website may need light scheduled care. A store, portal or custom plugin may need a more deliberate testing process before updates reach the live site.

I can help define a maintenance approach based on the risk and complexity of the website. No maintenance plan prevents every issue, but a sensible routine makes problems easier to detect and recover from.

Development process

From requirement to reliable release

Review

Understand the business need, current setup, users and technical constraints.

Plan

Define the smallest sensible scope, important states and how success will be checked.

Build and test

Develop in a controlled environment and test common journeys, permissions and errors.

Launch and support

Prepare backups, migration steps, documentation and an appropriate follow-up plan.

Frequently asked questions

WordPress development FAQs

Can you improve an existing WordPress website?

Yes. I first review the theme, plugins, hosting, content structure and the specific problem. Sometimes repair and simplification are better than a full rebuild.

Do I need a custom plugin?

Only when reliable existing tools cannot meet an important requirement cleanly. Custom plugins also need documentation, testing and future maintenance.

Can WordPress support an internal system?

It can support focused portals and workflows when the requirements fit. I assess data sensitivity, scale, permissions and long-term needs before recommending it.

Can you help with a slow website?

Yes. I examine likely causes rather than applying a single speed plugin and assuming the work is complete.

Can you migrate hosting or fix DNS problems?

Yes. I can review hosting, DNS, SSL and migration steps. Email services need special care because changing DNS can affect them.
